In 2023 Raphael performed Siegmund in Die Walküre in Berlin. He then performed the role of Canio in Sydney Australia. In 2024, Raphael perfomed Don José in Bizet’s Carmen and Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor. In 2025 he is performing a busy concert schedule including his groundbreaking dramatic re-imagining of Schubert’s Winterreise song cycle.

Biography

Raphael Hudson originally made his debut as a baritone, performing many roles including Rossini’s Don Parmenione, Toreador (Carmen), Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor) and Blansac (La scala di seta).

Raphael won scholarships to the Mediterranean Opera Studio in New York and Sicily where he studied tenor repertoire with Gioacchino Li Vigni, Nicola Martinucci and Salvatore Fisichella. In 2019 Raphael studied with the Chinese soprano Elizabeth Wen Gu and was subsequently invited to China where he performed Chinese solos in Chinese on the banks of the Yellow River to nationwide television coverage and acclaim. After the coronavirus lockdowns, Raphael studied with Michael Trimble at the Trimble Vocal Institute in Washington and with celebrated international dramatic tenor Yonghoon Lee in Sydney.

Raphael was a finalist in the largest vocal competition in Australia in 2022, the Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship and a semi-finalist in the 2022 Premio Fausto Ricci international vocal competition in Viterbo, Italia. Raphael was invited to Germany to participate in the International Singer Academy Michaelstein where he worked with Professor Claudia Visca of the Richard Wagner Conservatorium in Vienna. Vienna. He continued his studies in heldentenor repertoire with the acclaimed Siegfried Christian Franz in Hannover.

Raphael’s oratorio and song repertoire includes large scale works for voice and orchestra including Bach's Easter Oratorio, Fauré’s Requiem, Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs, Carl Orff's Carmina Burana in Sydney Town Hall, the Chatswood Concourse and other prestigious venues in Sydney and Canberra, Australia. Raphael has also performed many piano-voice song cycles including Schumann’s much loved Dichterliebe and Butterworth’s A Shropshire Lad.

Raphael has also raised significant funds for charity performing music theatre recitals with the TOPS Orchestra in Parramatta Town Hall as well as jazz solos for International Women’s Day in Sydney.
